Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz talks about the planned acquisition of MySQL, how it came to be and what Sun’s plans are for the company. It boils down to: Sun won’t change any of the priorities of MySQL and the deal is about revenue synergies. Sun’s goal is to control data centers, to be the #1 data center vendor — not the be the #1 database vendor. To accomplish this goal, they need to be able to support all of the major database options because they all have certain strengths and weaknesses in the enterprise. Based on how Sun is talking now, it sounds like they are well on their way.
