Apparently, someone at Apple made a bit of a mistake in creating the iTunes movie rental product. Changing the system date on your machine allows you to get around the 30 day time limit on rentals. Now, who wants to go around changing their system clock to save $3… I’m sure there are several people. Expect to see an iTunes update soon to squash this bug.

I don’t like the 30 day limit to start viewing the movie anyway. I think once the movie is rented customers should be free to hold on to the file until they begin watching, at which point the 24 hour limit kicks in. This would be more in-line with today’s rental services like Netflix and Blockbuster’s online offerings.
