AT&T representatives at CES openly stated “that they may start filtering Internet content.” Apparently, they weren’t paying attention to the news that the FCC is going to look in to Comcast’s practices of filtering Internet traffic. I’m not sure what makes these ISPs think they are free to filter the Internet. They are common carriers and by stepping in and starting to filter content they may be opening themselves up to being more responsible for what their customers do. I believe it’s all about reducing their bandwidth utilization.
Step 1: Ban all of the activities that use large amounts and bandwidth
Step 2: Decrease available bandwidth
Step 3: Profit!
(Wow… I actually have a step 2 in there)
