After Plaxo was busted by Facebook for scraping user data, it looks as though everyone is going to start playing nicely together. Today, Facebook, Google and Plaxo all appointed representatives to join the DataPortability Workgroup on behalf of their respective companies.
The mission of the Workgroup is “To put all existing technologies and initiatives in context to create a reference design for end-to-end Data Portability. To promote that design to the developer, vendor and end-user community.” The key is to be able to pull or reference one’s social networking data from multiple sites because you will never get all of your friends and collegues to join just one network.
